White paint on one wall made my whole living room feel bigger

I tried painting just the wall behind my couch white last month after seeing a tip online. It cost me $18 for a gallon of leftover paint from a neighbor's garage sale. I didn't expect the room to feel so much brighter, almost like the ceiling got taller. I even got asked by two friends if I renovated. Has anyone else had luck with just a single accent wall?
