Our living room makeover cost under $40 and I'm shocked

I hit a milestone last weekend where I finished our living room refresh for only $37.50. We repainted two accent walls with leftover paint from a neighbor's garage sale, and I found a big mirror at a thrift store for $8. The real surprise was how much swapping out curtain rods and using cheap IKEA shelves changed the whole feel of the room. Has anyone else had a cheap upgrade that made a bigger difference than you expected?

Consider how much of that improvement came from just clearing out clutter and rearranging what you already had. I did something similar last summer when I moved my bookshelf to the opposite wall and put a couple plants where it used to sit. Cost me zero dollars and made the whole room feel bigger and more open. Sometimes the best changes are just taking a hard look at what you already own and shifting things around until they click.

yeah I read something about that actually. there was this article about how changing the visual weight in a room makes the biggest impact, and it's not about spending money. @mason283 mentioned rearranging which is huge, but I also heard that swapping out stuff you're used to seeing like curtains or a mirror tricks your brain into thinking the whole room is different. for me it was moving a floor lamp into a corner that was totally dead before, and suddenly the whole layout made sense. all it cost was like ten seconds of bending over.
