Had to pick between peel and stick tile or painting my kitchen backsplash last month
My backsplash was this UGLY yellow tile from the 70s and I had about $50 to fix it. Peel and stick seemed easier but I was scared it'd peel off in the humidity. I went with painting instead using some leftover white primer and a $8 quart of enamel paint from the hardware store. It took me 3 coats over a weekend and I had to tape EVERYTHING but it actually looks decent from 5 feet away. The grout lines still drive me nuts but it was way cheaper than any other option. Has anyone gotten those cheap tile stickers to last more than 6 months?

Yo have you considered using contact paper instead? I did my whole bathroom with it and it actually held up better than those stupid tile stickers. It's like $5 a roll at the dollar store and you just cut it to fit, no tape or paint fumes. The trick is to use a hairdryer on the edges so they really stick flat. Mine's been up for over a year now and no peeling at all, even with steam from hot showers.

Whoa, hold on, I've got to play devil's advocate here @fiona_scott44. In my experience, contact paper can be a nightmare to reposition if you mess up even a little, and any rough spots on the wall will show right through it after a few months. I'd rather deal with paint fumes once than risk peeling edges every time the bathroom gets steamy, honestly.
