My uncle showed me his 'empty fridge soup' recipe last Thanksgiving
We were at his place in Phoenix and he basically threw in a can of diced tomatoes, a handful of dried lentils, an old onion, and some spices from the back of his cabinet. He called it a 'clear out the kitchen' meal and said it cost him maybe $3 total for a huge pot. It tasted way better than I thought it would. I've started doing my own version with whatever cheap veggies are on sale. What are your go-to 'clean out the pantry' meals that actually turn out good?

That empty fridge soup idea is a lifesaver. Read an article once about "stone soup" where everyone adds a little something, same basic idea. A handful of pasta and a can of beans can turn into dinner real fast.

I mean, I get the idea @susanh46, but that soup always tastes like desperation to me.

Actually, stone soup is a folk tale about strangers tricking a town, not a recipe. But yeah, the "use what you got" spirit is the same.
