I was dead wrong about dollar store spices after burning $8 at the register

Grabbed a jar of their garlic powder for $1.25 on a whim last week, figured it'd be all filler, but it actually has way more punch than the $4 stuff I usually buy. Anyone else find a cheap pantry item that surprised them?

Well, I'll be honest, I had the same experience with their oregano. @iris_green84 is right that a lot of it is just habit. I buy my cinnamon at the dollar store now and it's just as good as the expensive stuff for baking.

It's funny how we trick ourselves into thinking expensive things are always better, when half the time the cheap stuff works just as well or better. I think we all carry around this idea that paying more means getting real quality, but then something like a dollar store spice proves the whole system is rigged. Once you start testing these little things, it makes you wonder what else we're overpaying for out of habit.
