Adding old yogurt to smoothies: my money saver with a side of guilt
I add yogurt past its best-by date to my smoothies. It cuts costs and waste, but I wonder if it's right.

The yogurt at my local co-op is like eight bucks a tub. I get not wanting to waste it, but if that stuff smells even a little funky, it's going straight in my compost, not my blender.

Ugh, I see this everywhere lately, not just with food. People feel this pressure to use up every last bit of something they paid a lot for, even when their gut says it's bad. Honestly, it's like we're training ourselves to ignore our own senses just because we don't want to feel the sting of wasting money. Tbh that's how you end up eating questionable leftovers or using a skincare product that gives you a rash. Sometimes tossing the eight dollar yogurt is the smarter move.

Jackson.sarah really nailed it with the idea of ignoring our senses. It's not just about yogurt, we do this all the time, like when we're tired but keep working or ignore a weird ache. That money guilt tricks us into thinking we're being smart, but it's just teaching us to overlook what our bodies are saying. I see it at work, people waiting too long to get help because they don't want to be a bother or waste a doctor's visit. Before you know it, you're talking yourself into using sketchy yogurt and brushing off bigger warning signs. Trusting that gut feeling is way more important than saving a couple dollars.
