Just found out how many types of oak trees are in my own county

I was reading an old field guide from the local library and it said there are 14 native oak species just in Cook County. I always thought it was maybe three or four... like the big ones you see in parks. The book had these tiny drawings of the acorns and leaves, and they all look so different. Has anyone else been shocked by the plant variety right under their nose?

Yeah the "mind-blowing" part is a bit much, @stone.evan. It's more like a neat trick when you see how it works. The basic idea has been around for a while, they just dressed it up in a new way. Calling it that sets the bar way too high for what it actually does. It's cool, but not that level of cool.
