Wasted $40 on a 'quick fix' leather conditioner that ruined a cover
Bought a fancy bottle of leather conditioner at the craft store last month. Used it on a nice calfskin cover for a custom order. Stuff left greasy spots that never soaked in. Had to redo the whole cover from scratch. Anyone know a good conditioner that actually works on bookbinding leather?

That "greasy spots that never soaked in" thing is a perfect example of the quick fix trap. I see it everywhere now, from cleaning products to car wax. They promise an easy solution but just make a bigger mess you have to fix properly later.

Oh man, @lisa839, you just made me remember the "magic" leather conditioner I bought. It left this awful shiny film that felt sticky. I used to grab whatever promised fast results, but that stuff taught me a lesson. Now I just use the simple, boring cleaner and take the time to do it right.
