Rant: I used to glue my headbands with PVA and wonder why they cracked

For years, I just slapped on the PVA straight from the bottle until a workshop in Portland showed me to thin it with a bit of water and work it in slowly. The difference in flexibility after six months is huge, no more brittle snaps. What's your go-to method for keeping headbands from getting stiff?

Oh man, the PVA struggle is real. I was out here treating it like craft glue for a solid year, just globbing it on. My headbands looked like they had a bad case of dandruff from all the dried, flaky bits. Finally watched a video where someone mixed it like paint and felt like a total clown. The thin layers actually soak in instead of just sitting on top like a weird plastic shell.

Totally get what @jade221 means about that weird shell. I switched to a fabric stiffener for the crown and only use the thinned PVA right on the inner band where it needs to bend.
