Our club's fight about a novel's ending made me skip the next meeting

The whole debate over whether the protagonist was right or wrong got way too personal for my taste.

People get so hung up on judging book characters like they're real people on trial. The bigger issue is when readers treat a novel's moral dilemma like an instruction manual for their own lives. That pressure to pick a side turns a fun talk into some weird moral purity test. It makes the club feel less about sharing ideas and more about winning arguments. No wonder you skipped the next meeting, that sounds exhausting, not fun.

Isn't the point of fiction to explore gray areas, not pick sides, @matthew_wells50?
