Spent 6 hours wrestling a 4 inch steam pipe flange that was 1/8 off from square

Had to grind down the bolt holes on site because the prefabbed spool piece came in crooked and I was way too stubborn to just cut and reweld, anyone else ever fight a flange that just won't line up?

The 6 hours thing makes me tired just reading it. I had a 3 inch flange on a steam line that was off by maybe 3/16 and I spent a whole afternoon with a porta-band and a file trying to get it to sit right. Ended up using a ratchet strap to pull it square and it still leaked a little until I hit it with sealant. Honestly sometimes you just gotta brute force it and hope the gasket does its job.

@betty_scott18 sounds like you and me both have that "I can fix it with enough hate" mindset lol. That 4 inch pipe had me using a come along and a 4 foot cheater bar just to get the bolts started. Grinding bolt holes is honestly the move sometimes, even if the foreman gives you the side eye for it.
