Hot take: I thought legacy board games were just a gimmick to sell more copies
My group tried Pandemic Legacy Season 1 last month, and the way the game permanently changes based on our choices completely won me over. Anyone else have a game that changed their mind like that?

We had the same exact thought before trying Gloomhaven. The box seemed like a big expensive trick. But tearing up those cards after a character retires creates a real story you can't get back. It made the wins feel earned and the losses actually hurt. That physical change to the game pieces sold me on the whole idea.

My buddy Dave got super into Pandemic Legacy with his group last year. He told me about the first time they failed a mission and had to put a permanent sticker on the board that made the next game harder. Said it felt like losing a real war, not just a board game. That sticker is still on his copy and he points at it every time someone visits.

Honestly felt the same way until we ripped up our first character card in Risk Legacy. That permanent change made every choice actually matter.
