Question about people using degreaser on disc brake rotors
I've seen three bikes this week where someone sprayed a whole can of citrus degreaser on the rotors trying to clean them, which totally ruins the pads. Has anyone else had to explain that you just need isopropyl alcohol?

Just saw a bike at the shop with completely black, greasy rotors. The owner said they used a whole bottle of kitchen degreaser because it "smelled clean." The pads were totally soaked and useless. I don't get where people get these ideas, it's such a waste. A quick wipe with alcohol is all it ever needs.

That "smelled clean" thing got me. A buddy of mine once decided his squeaky brakes needed oil. He used actual 3-in-1 household oil because it made the noise stop. The whole system was a slick mess. We spent an afternoon trying to clean it before just giving up and replacing everything. Some fixes just make it worse.
