I used to hate working on old cotter pin cranks, but a guy at the co-op showed me a trick with a brass drift and a 3lb hammer that changed my mind.

Totally get it, that drift and hammer method is a game changer. I used to fight those things for hours before learning the right angle and a solid tap. Now I keep a short piece of brass pipe in my kit just for that job. Makes pulling a crank so much less stressful knowing you won't mess up the threads.

Oh man, my buddy spent a whole weekend trying to yank a pulley off with a cheap gear puller that just bent. He finally bought the right tool and had it off in ten minutes. Sometimes you just have to stop fighting the wrong tool.

It's funny how often the right simple tool changes everything. You see it in cooking with a good knife or even just having a decent pen. That one piece of gear just cuts through the frustration.
