I bought a fancy digital thermometer that cost me $120 and it totally messed up my brisket

I was so excited to try this new wireless probe that promised perfect temps from my phone. I set it up for an overnight cook, trusting it completely. Woke up to find it had disconnected hours ago and my brisket was way overdone, basically a $90 piece of meat ruined. Has anyone found a simple, reliable thermometer that actually works for long smokes?

Exactly, that's the real problem, isn't it? We're sold on this idea of perfect control and then the tech just FAILS. @the_luna is right about the old analog stuff, it just WORKED. What really gets me is the trust part. Do you think you'll ever fully trust a wireless probe for a long cook again, or is that feeling just gone now?

Ugh this hits home. Everything's "smart" now but just gets dumber. My old analog oven thermometer never lost signal. Feels like we pay extra for things to break in new ways. That trust and then disappointment, it's the worst.

Actually, my smart oven's been pretty solid for years now.
