Stopped using thinning shears on my clients after 8 years in the chair
I learned how to cut hair in a shop where the older barbers used thinning shears on almost every head. Did it that way for years until a customer in Chicago told me his last cut looked stringy after a week. Switched to point cutting and texturizing with straight shears about 3 years ago. Hair falls better and grows out cleaner. Anyone else ditch the thinning shears and find a better method?

Did you ever notice thinning shears can mess with how curly or wavy hair behaves after it dries? I'm not a stylist or anything, but I've got pretty wavy hair and had a stylist use thinning shears on me once. It was like the waves just collapsed and went flat in random spots, made the whole thing look uneven. Point cutting seems way smarter for keeping the natural texture intact while still taking out bulk.

Oh yeah @sanchez.mia, thinning shears can totally wreck curls! Point cutting is way better for waves.

Thinning shears are the devil for waves, plain and simple.
