My cheap plastic pots from a big box store cracked after one season

I bought a set of 10 thin plastic pots for my balcony tomatoes last spring, thinking I saved $30. By August, half had split down the sides from the sun and heat, spilling soil everywhere. I'm in Phoenix, so the heat just wrecked them. Anyone have a good brand of pots that can handle full sun without breaking the bank?

Honestly, those thin pots in Phoenix sun were basically a ticking time bomb.

Nah, it's not just the thin pots... it's the color too. I saw a guy with dark ceramic pots out in Mesa last summer, cracked right down the middle after a week of 115 degree days. Plus, you gotta think about the soil drying out way faster in those cheap plastic nursery pots vs. terracotta. The real ticking time bomb is forgetting to water even one day in July... that's what gets people.

What do you mean by a ticking time bomb?
