I used to crush 20 mile days on the AT until I blew out my knee on a rocky descent in New Hampshire last summer

Now I plan routes with no more than 12 miles a day and actually stop to look at the views instead of racing to the next shelter, anyone else slow down after an injury?

The whole culture of crushing big miles kind of mirrors how we rush everything in daily life too. I notice people scrolling through social media without actually reading anything, or eating lunch at their desk without tasting it. Your knee forced you into a slower pace, but its the same lesson we could all use without the injury. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just stop and actually look at where you are lol.

Are you saying I should feel guilty for liking a long hike and a big lunch? I think you're reading way too deep into a hobby.
