I used to skip the coax ring test on every install until a captain at DFW called me out
For 6 years I slid by just doing a visual check and a wiggle test on the BNC connectors, figuring if it looked tight it was fine. Then a captain at DFW watched me sign off a nav install and asked to see my bond meter readings, and I had nothing to show him. He did not yell, he just said 'son, a connector that reads good on the ground can read 12 dB off at 30,000 feet' and walked off. Now I ring out every single run with the meter and log the numbers, even on the quick turn jobs. Cost me 15 extra minutes a plane but I have not had a comeback squawk in 8 months. Any of you guys still doing the wiggle test or is the meter just standard everywhere now?
