Appreciation post: the old timer who showed me how to trace a wire fault without a schematic
Tbh I was chasing a weird intermittent on a King Air's nav lights for like two days last week. Then a retired guy from the hangar next door, named Dave, walked over and showed me how to use a tone generator and a basic continuity test to find a chafed wire behind the panel. It hit different because he didn't even look at the manual, just knew where the problem usually hides. Anyone else have a mentor who cuts through the BS like that?

I read that old school guys like Dave just have a sixth sense for where wires chafe from years of seeing the same airframes.

Feel you on that, lol. It's wild how some people just have that weird instinct for stuff you'd never notice yourself.
