Why does nobody talk about the static shock from sanding plastic bumpers?

I got zapped three times today (and not in a good way). What's the deal with that, and how do we prevent it?

I read that grounding the bumper with a wire helps stop the shock.

Ground the sander too, or you'll still get zapped.

Grounding the sander never worked for me, honestly.
