Vent: Stacking vs single-shot astro photos - one is clearly a waste of time

I spent 2 hours last week doing single 30-second exposures of the Orion Nebula with my Nikon D5500 and got a blurry mess. Then I tried stacking 50 short frames with DeepSkyStacker and the detail was insane - way more than I expected. Why would anyone still bother with single exposures when stacking gives you that much more for free?
