I finally gave in and let my camera chill outside before night shots

Was always too eager to start, so my pics had this grainy look from sensor heat. Now I just plop it outside for a bit first, and boom, the stars come out crisp and clear. Such a small change, but it really helped.

Oh man, I did the exact same thing for years.

Yeah, I learned that one the hard way too. My early attempts looked like someone sprinkled salt and pepper all over the sky because I was too impatient to let it cool down. Now I feel silly for all those blurry star trails that were probably just my own hot sensor smearing the light around. Your method of just setting it outside first is way smarter than what I was doing.

Wondering if we overthink the sensor heat thing sometimes. I mean yeah it can add noise but my worst shots usually came from wind shaking the tripod or just plain bad focus. Maybe it matters more for super long exposures but for basic star pics I've gotten away with pulling the camera straight from a warm bag. Could just be my old camera handles it different though.
