Hit 10,000 miles on my old sedan last Tuesday and felt strange about it

I bought this car back in 2016 with 60,000 miles on it. Last Tuesday I hit 70,000 exactly, which means I have put 10,000 miles on it myself. That number surprised me because I do not drive much anymore since I retired. It is just trips to the grocery store and the library every week. But seeing that odometer roll over made me realize how many quiet mornings and rainy afternoons that car has carried me through. I got it from a dealership in Springfield and it still runs fine with no major repairs. Has anyone else had a car that just keeps going without much fuss?

Yeah, that line about "quiet mornings and rainy afternoons" got me. I used to think a car was just an appliance. Get you from A to B. Then my old Civic hit 200k and I realized how many memories were packed into those miles. Changed how I look at it.

It's interesting you say that because I actually see it the opposite way. That "quiet mornings and rainy afternoons" stuff feels like we're putting too much meaning on a machine that just needs an oil change. I get that you had a Civic for a long time, but isn't a car still kind of an appliance though? My old Corolla got me through college and road trips, but at the end of the day it was just reliable transportation. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think a toaster becomes special just because I ate toast on a rainy morning.
