Serious question, I watched a sugar maple recover from a bad storm over two years

Back in 2021, a big thunderstorm in my area took a major limb off a mature sugar maple in a local park. The break was rough, about 8 inches across, and left a huge wound. For the first year, it just looked sad and exposed. But by the second summer, I started seeing real callus growth rolling in from the edges. Now, after a full two growing seasons, the tree has sealed over about 70% of that wound with solid new wood. It's a great example of how these trees can compartmentalize damage if they're healthy to start. Has anyone else tracked a big wound closure like that? I'm curious how long it usually takes on different species.

My oak sealed a six-inch wound in about three years, so that sounds right.

My maple took nearly seven years to close a four inch cut. The type of tree and local climate really change the speed. Your oak must be in a great spot to heal that fast.
