Thought those cheap Amazon multimeters were fine until one gave me a bad reading on a compressor start cap
I was using a $15 meter for months to check run caps on fridges, and last week it told me a 45mfd cap was good when it was actually dead, so I swapped a perfectly good board before realizing the cap was toast, has anyone else had a budget tool lead you down the wrong path like that?

My buddy Pete tried testing a microwave cap with a $8 special from Harbor Freight and it showed zero voltage when the cap was still holding 300 volts. He reached in with a screwdriver and got the scare of his life when it popped like a firecracker. He bought a Fluke the next day and never looked back.

That thing about the microwave cap sounds terrifying, @evan151. It's wild how we'll spend good money on everything else but then cheap out on the one tool that can literally save your life or your appliances. I've noticed the same pattern with people using bargain-bin tire gauges too, then wondering why their gas mileage sucks.
