My buddy in Seattle said we should stop fixing old dryers and just sell new ones

We were having a beer after a long day, and he said, 'Man, we're wasting hours on units that'll die in a year anyway, just push the sale.' It hit different because I've always prided myself on keeping stuff out of the landfill. But last week I spent 3 hours on a 15-year-old Maytag only for the motor to fail two days later. Do you guys ever feel like you're just putting a band-aid on a lost cause?

Wait, is your buddy in sales or something? That "push the sale" line sounds like it. Here's the thing, some old dryers are absolutely worth fixing if the parts are cheap and the core machine is solid. But a 15 year old Maytag with a motor that far gone? That's the universe telling you it's time. You're not failing by letting go of a lost cause, you're just picking your battles better.

Seattle buddy's advice aside, how do you decide when to listen to the_amy's universe?
