Had a week where I fixed 5 dryers in a row - then everything fell apart

Last Thursday was my best day in months. I fixed a Samsung dryer that was squeaking and a Whirlpool that wouldn't heat, both in under 45 minutes each. Customer even tipped me $20 on the Samsung job. But then Friday hit and I spent 3 hours on a GE dryer that kept blowing the thermal fuse. Turned out the vent was completely clogged with lint, took forever to clean out. Made me wonder if I should start charging extra for vent inspections on every call. Anyone else see big swings like this in your workload?

Those vent inspections are a lifesaver once you start doing them regularly... I add a flat $25 fee for checking the vent on every dryer call now and it cuts down on those surprise 3 hour jobs. Saved me from eating the time on clogged vents at least twice a month since I started doing it. Just give customers a heads up when you quote it and most people are fine paying a little extra to know their dryer is actually safe.

Jumped on the vent inspection train after my second clogged dryer call in one day and never looked back. I actually added a $20 fee for checking the vent and it's saved me from those nightmare jobs where you're digging out lint for an hour and a half. Customers usually say yes when I tell em it stops fires and keeps their dryer running longer. Plus it's way easier to clean a vent when you catch it early instead of after the thermal fuse blows for the third time. My only regret is not doing it sooner, but then again I probably would've messed up the first few inspections anyway.
