Appreciation post: My stubborn love for manual defrost fixes in smart fridges
Just handled a call for a fancy fridge that kept throwing error codes. Everyone in the shop says to just replace the whole board when it acts up, but I found the issue was a stuck defrost timer you can manually cycle. Took me an extra hour to find it, but saved the customer a huge bill. I think we're too quick to swap parts instead of actually diagnosing, tbh. Had a similar win last month with an ice maker that just needed a good thump.

My old fridge just needs a good kick, so @kevin110's story hits close to home.

Totally get where you're coming from with the manual fixes, those wins feel great. But gotta say, a lot of the newest smart fridges are locking that stuff down. Found one last week where the defrost cycle is only controlled through the main touchscreen, no physical timer to find. Sometimes the "fix" is just a software reset they hide in a service menu. It's getting harder to do the simple physical checks.
