Question about the old arcade machines at the bowling alley in Springfield
I was at the local bowling alley last night and noticed they still have a row of original 90s arcade cabinets in the back. The Daytona USA machine had a CRT monitor with that classic scanline look I haven't seen in years. It made me realize how much the feel of those old games depends on the original screen tech. Has anyone here had luck fixing a similar CRT in an arcade cab that had dim colors?

Yeah, I read the same thing about those caps.

That classic dim look on old CRTs is sometimes just the tube getting tired, but it can also be a simple capacitor issue on the neck board. Those little caps dry out over twenty years and cause weak color signals. In my experience, a cap kit is the first thing to try before messing with the flyback or tube settings. Just be really careful around the high voltage anode, that thing can hold a nasty charge even when unplugged.
