My brother called my favorite anime 'just a bunch of people talking in a room'
We were at my place yesterday and I was rewatching the final episodes of a series I really like, one of those slow-burn character dramas. He walked in, watched for about five minutes, and just said, 'So it's just a bunch of people talking in a room, huh?' It hit different because he wasn't trying to be mean, he was just stating what he saw. It made me realize I love it for the exact reason he pointed out. The tension and the story come entirely from the dialogue and the small shifts in their faces. I've been thinking about it all day. What's an anime you love that someone else might think is boring on the surface?

Your brother nailed it. The best ones make a room feel like the whole world. Try watching something like 'Mushishi' where a guy just walks around fixing nature problems. It's basically a supernatural park ranger doing paperwork, but the atmosphere swallows you whole. The quiet is the whole point.

That part about the quiet being the whole point is exactly it. I felt the same way with a show called 'Kino's Journey'. It's just about a traveler visiting strange countries, and nothing loud ever really happens. The slowness lets you sink into each place's weird little rules. It makes a simple campfire feel huge and important. That kind of show just replaces your whole mood for a while.
