My anime suggestion to a beginner revealed something about our discussions!

I suggested a show to a friend who's never watched anime before. They later said they stayed away from online talks because they looked too heated. Do forums usually seem unfriendly to new fans?

Tbh your friend has a point, some threads get way too intense over nothing. Honestly I've seen people get ripped apart just for saying they like a popular show, like calm down it's just cartoons. It sucks because forums should be where we all chat about stuff we enjoy. The whole 'real fan' thing just pushes new people away for no good reason.

Yeah, it's a real problem. I read a whole article about "gatekeeping" in anime spaces last week. People get weirdly defensive over what counts as "real" anime or the "right" way to watch. Your friend is smart to be cautious. Some threads turn into shouting matches over subtitles versus dubs or which classic show is overrated. It makes simple talk hard.
