Hot take: dubbing used to be fine but now I can't stand watching it

I used to watch everything dubbed back in 2018, especially shonen like My Hero Academia. Then I caught a clip of the subbed version of Attack on Titan season 3 part 2 last year and the raw emotion from the Japanese voice actors just hit different. Now when I try dubbed stuff the lip flaps being off drives me crazy and the English voices feel flat. Am I the only one who flipped like this after years of being fine with dubs?

Did you ever read that article about how the human brain processes lip movements and sound? Something about a 100 millisecond delay being all it takes to throw you off. Once I learned about that I couldn't unsee it in dubs.

My own brain is probably running on a 500 millisecond delay these days so I barely notice dubs anymore. Last week I tried to watch a foreign film and thought the lip sync was perfect until I realized the subtitles were for a different movie. At this point I'm just impressed when I can remember why I walked into a room.
