Showerthought: my grandpa's "useless junk" CL-1 light meter carton was cleaner than mine
Told him in 2002 those crusty Weston cells were junk, then last month I pulled his old carton out of a Tacoma garage box, hooked up the leads, and it matched my Sekonic on the dot within 1/3 stop, so now I need someone to tell me if zinc-air hearing aid cells are still the way to go or if the 625 adapter is worth the $30.

Man, the thing nobody brings up in these threads is how the cell sits in the circuit, not just the voltage. Those old Weston meters were built around a cell that could push real current, and a zinc-air cell sags under load in a way that a silver adapter with the right resistor does not. So yeah the 625 adapter costs $30 but you are paying for a known load curve, not just 1.35 volts. People slap in hearing aid cells, meter reads fine in shade, then it drifts in bright sun because the cell is working harder and the needle is slowly lying to you. If your grandpa's carton is matching your Sekonic that close, I would not trust a $2 cell to keep that streak going. Spend the $30 once and stop thinking about it.
