Shoutout to the guy at Precision Camera in Austin who warned me about reusing fixer
I was at Precision Camera in Austin about 3 months ago and the clerk told me never to push fixer past 2 rolls of 400 speed film unless I wanted brown stains on my negatives. I ignored him to save money and ran 6 rolls through the same batch last weekend. Half my shots came out foggy with yellow streaks and I had to redo the whole session, so now I want to know what test strips you all use to check if fixer is actually spent.
Wait, you ran SIX rolls through one batch of fixer when the guy told you two? That is wild, man, the fixer was probably dead after roll three and everything past that was just sitting in chemicals doing nothing. Grab some Hypam or Ilford test strips next time, they turn clear when the fixer is still good and stay cloudy when it is spent.
