My old Pentax finally gave up the ghost last weekend
I was out shooting at the county fair and the shutter on my K1000 just locked up tight after the 3rd frame. Opened it up in my truck and saw the foam cushion around the mirror had turned into sticky goo and jammed everything. Has anyone here had luck cleaning out that old foam without messing up the mirror alignment?

Toothpick and isopropyl is the way to go but go SLOW with it. Use a wooden toothpick not a plastic one, plastic can scratch the mirror coating if you slip. Dampen the toothpick with the alcohol and GENTLY roll it along the foam strip, don't scrape hard or you might knock the mirror loose from its hinge. I've done this on two Pentax bodies and had to re-center the mirror after because I got too aggressive with it.

Oh man, that sticky foam goo strikes again! I swear Pentax used the same stuff they put in gummy worms back in the 80s. Did you try just carefully scraping it off with a toothpick and some isopropyl?
