My old foreman swore by putting door contacts on the frame, so why did three of them fail in the same month?

He said the moving part wears out faster on the door itself, but after replacing six sensors in one apartment building in Bakersfield where every single door contact sat on the frame and kept losing connection, I'm starting to think he had it backwards, has anyone else seen better luck with the magnet on the moving side?

Man, that's rough. Six sensors in one building is enough to drive anyone crazy, especially in Bakersfield where the heat does weird stuff to plastic and wiring. I've seen the same thing happen, where the magnet side on the fixed frame just seems to drift out of alignment over time, probably from the door sagging or the frame swelling. My old boss was the opposite, he always put the magnet on the door itself and the contact on the frame, and we had way fewer callbacks that way. Take that with a grain of salt since every install is different, but your experience lines up with mine for sure.
