I had to choose between a ladder and a climbing harness for a sensor on a weird roof
The job was a second-story addition in Springfield with a steep, slick metal roof. My choices were a 28-foot extension ladder on uneven ground or my old climbing harness from a rock wall phase. I went with the harness, clipped into a solid vent pipe. It worked, but I spent the whole time dangling like a spider while the homeowner filmed me from his lawn. Anyone have a better method for those nearly vertical installs?

My last roof like that was a 40-foot A-frame cabin in the Poconos. I tried using a ladder stabilizer, but the angle was so sharp the feet just slid on the gravel. Ended up renting a boom lift for half a day, which felt like cheating but my knees thanked me. You ever think about just getting one of those roof brackets you nail in?

Ha, boom lifts are never cheating! Those roof brackets always look like they'd tear up the shingles, though.
