Appreciation post: The diner in my town that finally got an air fryer
There's this old diner near me in Cleveland called Rosie's that's been around since the 70s. I stopped in last Tuesday for lunch and noticed they had a new air fryer sitting on the counter behind the grill. I asked the cook about it and he said they got it two weeks ago after the owner's wife complained about the fried chicken being greasy. He let me try a piece of their air fryer chicken tenders and honestly they were way better than the old deep fried version. Crispy on the outside but not dripping oil, and the meat was still juicy. I never thought a greasy spoon diner would bother upgrading their equipment but it made a big difference. Has anyone else seen old school restaurants switch to air fryers and actually pull it off?

Man, I gotta be the guy who disagrees here. I'm from Toledo and we got a diner that did the same thing last year, and now their chicken tastes like a fast food place that forgot to change the oil. Air fryers are basically just convection ovens with a fancy name, they don't actually fry anything. The coating comes out dry and powdery instead of that real crispy crunch you get from a deep fryer. Plus, they can't handle the volume, so when it's busy your food sits under a heat lamp while they rush another batch. Not saying Rosie's is bad, but I'd rather have the old greasy version that actually tastes like diner food.

Bet the owner's wife didn't expect her complaint to actually fix things lol.

Funny how one honest complaint can actually make things better instead of just being ignored. Feels like most places just brush off feedback but sometimes that one person saying something is what gets the ball rolling.
