Tried an AI colorizer on an old family photo from 1940s Detroit and it added a mustache to my grandma

Honestly I thought it'd just be a fun experiment but the AI made my grandma look like she had a thick handlebar mustache. The sweater and background looked great but faces were a total mess. Does that mean the AI doesn't understand human features well enough to count as real art, or is the imperfection part of the creative process? I'm curious if anyone else has had face fails like this.

Yeah that's a common issue with a lot of those online colorizers, they get confused by low-res faces and fill in the gaps with random junk. If you want to fix it, try running the face through a separate upscaler first before you hit the colorizer.

Does that upscaler trick actually work decently with really old photos from like the 1800s? Or does it mess up the historical details in a different way?
