Had a chat with a guy tearing down an old grain silo last weekend

He said these old places aren't abandoned, they're just waiting for someone to give them a second chance, and now I can't stop seeing every rusty broken down barn as a project instead of a loss; has anyone else started looking at ruins differently after talking to a demolition guy?

Does that demolition guy basically just see potential where everyone else sees trash? It's crazy how once you start looking for second chances in things you notice them everywhere, like that old chair on the curb someone could reupholster or even the way people write off entire neighborhoods as "bad" when they're just... waiting.

Take the way @cameron_chen63 describes neighborhoods getting written off. What people miss is that the same mindset applies to other people too. The guy you write off as a screw-up at work might have an idea that saves the company money if you just let him talk. Or the guy everyone calls a burnout might be the one who notices a leak in the warehouse before it causes major damage. There's a difference between seeing potential and just being naive about red flags, but most folks don't even try to look past the first impression. That's the real waste.
