inThat news story on the unearthed village has me debating preservation vs. study.
My dad's basement holds two plastic totes of my grandpa's war letters, still in their original envelopes. @thead44, your point about being scared to pull the past into the present hits home. What if we found out he wasn't the hero we always talked about? Would that break something, or just make him more real? I wonder if the fear is less about ruining the past and more about losing the simple stories we tell ourselves.

inRant: Overloading the air fryer makes everything steam
Ugh, yes! I learned the hard way that pretty much everything needs to be in a single layer to cook right and let the air circulate properly.

inHot take: Pre-drilling is the only way to avoid splits in hardwoods.
Totally feel you on the maple cabinet doors, that's a brutal lesson. One angle folks miss is moisture content. Even with pre-drilling, if your wood isn't acclimated to your shop's humidity, it's gonna move and split anyway. I've seen guys drill perfect pilot holes in kiln-dried walnut, only to have cracks show up a week later because the wood was still adjusting. Checking with a meter before you even start cutting saves so much headache.
