Wait, it actually attacked the mat itself? Like, the rubber? My cats ignore mine completely unless I'm on it. That's wild. What's even there to hunt, the smell? Maybe it thought the pattern was bugs. I'd be worried about claw marks and little bites taken out of the thing.

My cat Simon attacks our mat daily. He loves the rubbery texture, thinks it's a giant toy. The scratches are minor, never really damaged it.
