Just realized my old way of mixing color was costing me time and money

For years I mixed my permanent color straight from the tube into the developer bowl. Last month I started pre-mixing the tube color in a separate dish with a bit of the developer first, like a paste. The difference is huge. The color blends way smoother with no little globs. I used to waste maybe a quarter ounce of color per client because it would stick to the bowl. Now I get full coverage with less product. Did a full highlight on a client yesterday and used exactly what I measured. Has anyone else switched up their mixing routine and seen results like that?

Honestly I thought that was just an extra step for no reason. Tried it last week and it really does make the color spread more even, no more weird clumps. Why did I wait so long to try it?

Yeah, that paste trick is a total game changer. Do you find it helps with stubborn colors like reds or blues too?

My buddy tried the paste on a red wine stain that had been through the dryer. It was set in bad. He left the paste on overnight and washed it hot. The stain was almost completely gone, just a faint pink shadow left. He said it was the only thing that ever made a dent in it after it got heat set like that.
