Just saw my property tax bill hit the $12,000 mark for the first time

I opened the mail from the city and my jaw dropped. I knew it was going up, but crossing that five figure threshold into twelve thousand dollars a year felt like a gut punch. It's for my semi in Scarborough that I bought back in 2019. The city's assessment jumped again, and my monthly budget just got a whole lot tighter. How are other people in the GTA handling these crazy increases without going broke?

Rent out a room, it covers half my bill now.

My tax bill hit $11,500 last year and I started calling my home office the "room that pays for itself." It's a lie, but it helps me sleep. I'm just eating more lentils and cutting back on everything that isn't a bill.
