My car keys vanished from the kitchen counter for three whole days

I put them down next to the fruit bowl, turned around to grab my bag, and they were just gone. They showed up three days later in the exact spot I first looked, under a mail flyer that wasn't there before. Has anyone else had an object just blink out and back in like that?

Check if you have a carbon monoxide leak in your house. Seriously, that stuff messes with your memory and makes you lose things. It happened to a friend who kept misplacing stuff and felt foggy. They found a small leak near the kitchen. Maybe get a detector just to be safe?

My wallet does that so often I'm starting to think it's just shy.

The carbon monoxide thing is a good point, but I've also seen people say it's just your brain filling in gaps. Like you walk into a room and your brain tells you the keys are there even when they aren't because it's what you expect. But then three days later your brain finally admits it was wrong and you find them. I had a set of headphones vanish from my desk once and they showed up in the fridge six months later. I don't even use the fridge for headphones. My best guess is my subconscious decided to hide them from me for a laugh.
