Unpopular opinion: Rushing the cool down on small pieces hurts glass strength
Fast cooling makes glass brittle and more likely to crack.

Totally! Fast cooling makes glass brittle, I’ve seen so many pieces crack from rushing it.

Why do I always think I can cheat the cooling process? Last summer, I made a simple vase and got impatient waiting for it to anneal. I figured a quick chill in the fridge would be fine, but nope, it developed a huge crack right down the middle. Now I've got a bunch of 'artisanal' cracked pottery that's basically useless. Sometimes I wonder if my lack of patience is why I can't have nice things...
