My clear frit work went from cloudy to sharp after switching to a different annealing schedule.

For years my frit pieces came out looking a bit foggy, especially with dense color. I started using a slower ramp down from 1050 to 800 degrees, holding for 45 minutes, and the difference is night and day. Is a long soak at a higher temp really that critical, or is it more about the overall cooling curve?

Actually, that hold at 800 is doing the real work. The slower ramp just gets you there without stress. The glass needs that time to settle its structure.

The annealing hold is what actually relieves the stress, not the ramp.

Wait, you're saying the ramp does nothing? That's wild. I always thought the slow climb was the whole point of annealing. So the glass just chills out once it hits the right temp and hangs out?
