Vent: My neighbor said something about small talk that stuck with me
I was taking out the trash and ran into my neighbor, Mrs. Chen. We did the usual 'how's the weather' thing. Out of nowhere, she said, 'You know, we only talk about the rain because we're scared to ask about the pain.' It hit me hard. I've been feeling pretty isolated since I moved here six months ago. I realized I use 'general discussion' as a shield. I ask about weekend plans instead of asking if someone's doing okay. That one line changed how I see every quick chat at the mailbox or in the elevator. Now I'm trying to be a bit braver, to ask a real question. Has a simple comment ever flipped a whole habit for you like that?
