Just read something about forum moderation that really caught me off guard
I was looking up some stats on a site about online communities and found that over 40% of reported posts in general discussion forums are flagged for being off-topic. That's a huge chunk. It was in a report from a group that studies internet behavior from last year. I always figured it was more like 10 or 15 percent. Makes you realize how hard it is to keep a conversation on track when the topic is so broad. What's the weirdest off-topic post you've ever seen slip into a general chat?

Honestly that stat sounds way too high to me. I help run a few forums and our reports are nothing like that. Most flags are for spam or personal attacks. The weirdest off-topic thing I ever saw was a long, detailed post about fixing a lawnmower in a forum for baking cakes. Someone just really needed help with their engine, I guess.

That lawnmower post sounds like someone was just desperate for help.
